Be Thankful

Call to Worship: 1Chron 16:8  Oh give thanks to the Lord!  Call upon His name, make known His deeds among the people.

 

 

Intro: what are you thankful for.  Bible verses Psalms50:14  Eph5:20   Philippians 4:6 and 1 Thesa 5:18

How have you done with the thanks challenge from last year?

 

Just want to feel better.  Thank God for doctors and care givers.  What we need is a word of encouragement. lifted up, learn how to say thank you anyway, no matter , thanks may I have another.  I’m thankful my wife can cook and that I know how to eat it.

 

Psalms 27---Gods feel good tranquilizer

·        Broken down into the 4 C's; Confidence, Closeness, Cry and Counsel from the Lord.

·        Helps us to be thankful and enter His Gates with thanksgiving and praise!

·        To be thankful for whatever---whatever comes our way, what ever circumstances we are in , whatever comes on us as God is in control and teaching us----question is --are we hearing, are we learning are we growing in Him with Him Thru Him.

 

·        We give thanks as we come upon this first Sunday in advent; waiting again for the birth to be celebrated and His coming again to be revealed to all.

 

Confidence  (v1-3)

·        What do you confide in....health, money, looks what?

·        The Lord----Jehovah is......God exists and therein is his confidence.

·        David: He believes God exists----as such he believes---knows there is a God and therefore nust be answers to life

·        He also believes he has a relationship with God---personal connection---a God connection---much like UCFM me and Fred N.

Eph 5:20---

 

Closeness (v 4-6)

·        Our confidence is based on our closeness to God.  Do you want to dwell with Him like David did?

·        Psalm 50:14-16---

·        to just move near Him to be with Him and protected by Him in His care day and night?

 

 

Cry (v 7-12)

·        change in tone, was praises of God

·        no realizes how unworthy he is-like Isaiah  Woe is me I am undone

·        No pleads with God not to leave Him (v11) God teach me healthy, holier more righteous person

·        Philip 4:6

 

 

Counsel (v13-14)

·        gives us the benefit  of all before, we always have 2 options---despair or depend, worry or worship, give up or look up  can care for it ourselves or cast our cares on the Lord------------take heart and wait on the Lord.

·        1 Thesal 5:18

 

 

Concl:

regarding confidence: make up your mind, cast out depression, discouragement, give thanks, have an attitude of gratitude

 

regarding closeness: spend time with the Lord, study the Bible, pray

 

regarding cry: be more sensitive to sin in your life, confess it ask forgiveness, ask God to help you grow in holiness

 

regarding counsel: so don’t just ask and BE----DO and GO  cast your cares on Him to do what only He can  His way and in His time.
