Recall Reflect
& Repent
III. Repenting
& The Cross
Psalm 40:1-8 Read this prayer!
A woman walked into the kitchen
to find her husband stalking around with a fly swatter.
"What are you doing?"
she asked.
"Hunting Flies" he
responded.
"Oh!, Killing any?" she
asked.
"Yep, 3 males and 2
females", he replied.
Intrigued, she asked. "How
can you tell?"
He responded, "3 were on TV
remote and 2 were on the phone."
If you got arrested for being a
Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict you?
Stranded on an island!
- Lately have been dealing
with forgiveness and reflecting , recalling and
repenting. Want to continue on with that today. See what
happens as we do that.
- We start to Forgive, then
Repent then Abide then Disciple then Evangelize
- We start to fulfill our
purpose: to Worship, to have Fellowship, to
practice Discipleship; to become a Ministry;
and to spread Evangelism
- God is the refiner and we
are like the gold
- I Peter 5:10 I Peter 1:6
Job 5:17 I Theso 3:3
- He turns up the heat
- Any heat in your life,
"no" your doing it wrong
- The crud rises and is skimed
off
- Till He can see Himself in
the liquid
- We are to be like Jesus
- II Chronicles 7:14 if
MY people
- Talking to the church,
believers
- To keep his ways , His laws
- Jesus showed us how to do
that
- We today need to Recall,
Reflect and Repent
- Eastertime,
LentPassoverEaster
- When we recall, reflect and
repent
- Thought turn to Jesus and
His life
- Movie the Passion, released
at some other time may not have impact it is having
- Lent is the 40 days from Ash
Wednesday to Sat before Easter Sunday
- Reflect we are not worthy to
come before God and our best is like ashes to God
- The 40 days symbol of Jesus
in the desert and temptations He faced
- Time that prepared Him for
His purpose
- Time that prepared Moses
when he was in the desert
- Moses had a good job tending
sheep and what not
- Then God came along in a
burning bush
- Moses had training in
leading and tending sheep that liked to do their own
thing at times
- Just like the children of
Israel
- 40 days with God on the
Mount
- 40 years in the wilderness
- 40 days people saw Jesus
after He rose from the dead
- .
- This reflecting leads us to
the Cross
- To consider who we will
serve, our own self interests or those of God
- This leads to
repentance, true repentance
- A sorrow for what or
how we acted
- We see how we fall
short of the mark
- What is the mark, to
be Like Jesus
- So we vow to do better and
let Him do it thru us
- Let Him work thru us to His
glory from God thru God to God to save us from God
- As we do that we become a
follower of Jesus
- We forgive, repent ,
learn and imitate Christ
- We become dependent
on His power not ours
- Not by power or
might but my Spirit
- Numbers 21:6 That
Christ be lifted up as the Serpent was on Moses
pole
-
- But we have to be willing to
deny ourselves and take up our cross
- Matthew 16:24
- To learn self denial
- Cant tell Jesus the terms,
He already spelled them out
- To be willing to give up
ourselves for Christ
- Lent makes us think on these
things
- Matthew 16:23----we
are to mind the things of God, not of men or our creature
comforts
- Not be taken in by the
things of man
- Do this to get that not
right/ Read the Bible Get back to the basics
- Matthew 6:33 Seek first the
Kingdom of God
- Give your life away to find
your life
- When you realize that God,
in His sovereignty, will bring good out of the wrongs
done to you . . . you can have an attitude of
forgiveness.
- When you realize that God,
in His sovereignty, will use your location
for good . . . you can have an attitude of
forgiveness.
- When you realize that God,
in His sovereignty, will use your every circumstance
for good . . . you can have an attitude of
forgiveness.
- When you are able to accept
Gods sovereignty over your location, your
circumstances and especially the wrongs done to you, and
trust Him to use them one day for good . . . you
will have success through your forgiveness.
- Joseph took up His cross, as
did Moses, David, and Jesus
That attitude of forgiveness
brings us to repentenace which brings us to the Cross as
you Recall , Reflect and Repent
- The Cross was from God
because of His love and thru God because of His
righteousness and justice and to God because He has
chosen Us as His people
- Cross is where old way was
killed and Jesus way born in us its from where our
salvation comes
- Go from me centered to Jesus
centered
- Replace our spirit with His
Holy Spirit
THREE TREES
Once there were three trees on a
hill in the woods. They were discussing
their hopes and dreams when the
first tree said,
"Someday I hope to be a
treasure chest. I could be filled with gold, silver and precious
gems. I could be decorated with intricate carving and everyone
would see the beauty."
Then the second tree said,
"Someday I will be a mighty ship. I will take kings and
queens across the waters and sail to the corners of the world.
Everyone will feel safe in me because of the strength of my
hull."
Finally the third tree said,
"I want to grow to be the tallest and straightest tree in
the forest. People will see me on top of the Hill and look up to
my branches, and think of the heavens and God and How close to
them I am reaching. I will be the
greatest tree of all time and people will always remember
me."
After a few years of praying that
their dreams would come true, a group of woodsmen came upon the
trees. When one came to the first tree he said, "This looks
like a strong tree, I think I should be able to sell the wood to
a carpenter, "and he began cutting it down. The tree was
happy, because he knew that the carpenter would make him into a
treasure chest. At the second tree the woodsman said, "This
looks like a strong tree, I should be able to sell it to the
shipyard." The second tree was happy because he knew he was
on his way to becoming a mighty ship.
When the woodsmen came upon the
third tree, the tree was frightened because he knew that if they
cut him down his dreams would not come true. One of the woodsmen
said, "I don't need anything special from my tree, I'll take
this one," and he cut it down.
When the first tree arrived at
the carpenters, he was made into a feed box for animals. He was
then placed in a barn and filled with hay. This was not at all
what he had prayed for.
The second tree was cut and made
into a small fishing boat. His dreams of being a mighty ship and
carrying kings had come to an end.The third tree was cut into
large pieces and left alone in the dark.
The years went by, and the trees
forgot about their dreams.
Then one day, a man and woman
came to the barn. She gave birth and they placed the baby in the
hay in the feed box that was made from the first tree. The man
wished that he could have made a crib for the baby, but this
manger would have to do. The tree could feel the importance of
this event and knew that it had held the greatest treasure of all
time.
Years later, a group of men got
in the fishing boat made from the second tree. One of them was
tired and went to sleep. While they were out on the water, a
great storm arose and the tree didn't think it was strong enough
to keep the men safe. The men woke the sleeping man, and He stood
and said "Peace" and the storm stopped. At this time,
the tree knew that it had carried the King of Kings in its boat.
Finally, someone came and got the
third tree. It was carried through the streets as the people
mocked the man who was carrying it. When they came to a stop; the
man was nailed to the tree and raised in the air to die at the
top of a hill. When Sunday came,
the tree came to realize that it was strong enough to stand at
the top of the hill and be as close to God as was possible,
because Jesus had been crucified on it.
The moral of this story is that
when things don't seem to be going your way, always know that God
has a plan for you. If you place your trust in Him, He will give
you great gifts. Each of the trees got What they wanted, just not
in the way they had imagined. We don't always know what God's
plans are for us. We just know that His ways are not our ways,
but His ways are always best.
As we move to Easter we have
to remember The Passion of and in the Christ in the Cross
He took up for usWhat
are you willing to take up for Him?
What does this lent
season mean to you!
- So, we must listen to John
the Baptist, Jesus the Christ and Peter the Rock
- Prepare the way of the Lord
- Repent for the kingdom of
God is at hand
- How much time do we have
left?
- Live as if we have no time
left, the 4th quarter and use this time from
Ash Wed till Easter to recall, reflect and repent
- Allow God to change you as
you come to His Son in His passion and plead His mercy
- He will give it to you.
