Repenting for
Revival to Be Like Christ 1
Recall----Reflect---Repent---The
3 Rs
II Chronicles 7:14
turn
from their wicked ways..!
2 Cor. 7:10 Godly sorrow
brings repentance
To repent means----to turn away,
go in another direction
- To do something different
- Not do what you did before
- Its not penance,
reparation or self-punishment
- Not morbid introversion
- It is a contrite, sorrow,
remorse, guilt, grief and regret, not that we did wrong
but that others know it
- But is a turning---a choice
turn from sin TO God
- Whats important about
repenting or turning away
- Builds character
- Re 3:19 as many as I
love I reprove and chasten
- Leads to being like Christ
caring for people and each other---example: the
Homeless we saw
- We will not always get it
right
- God gives us time to turn to
Him for salvation from Him
- He is just and loving----but
will judge and punish
- If we turn to Him He alone
will save us thru His son Jesus
- Leads us to faith that God
is on control no matter
- Greater zeal to proclaim
faith in Jesus and the Cross
- To know who you are in
Christ as His child
- Without the cross, there is
no hope for mankind
- Without the Passion, there
is no salvation
- Cant escape the judgment to
come God is just
- God provides a way out
- We have to turn from our own
work to His work
- In humility strict obedience
- God doesnt promise a
rose garden but delivers delicious aromas
- No dream voyage, just joyful
arrivals
- Thats
repentanceturning from your ways to His ways
- Bible talks of turning back
to God throughout
- All thru the OT Israel told
to return to God
- To remember what He did for
them
- What has He done for you?
- Better yet what have you
done for Him
- Allowed you to witness to
someone
- Ezekiel 3:11 God is pleading
- God has no pleasure in death
of the wicked
- He desires all to turn to
Him
- To worship him, to
obey Him and follow Him, minister to Him,
evangelize and disciple
- All purposes of the
church and us as people
- Have to accept the
punishment of sin but dont have to stay there
- God is love and has mercy
- True you reap what you sow,
but dont have to forever, can sow good instead of
bad
- Death as well as life, curse
as well as blessing
- Hope and not despair// peace
and not war
- Acts 17:30 now
commands repentance
- We are no longer
ignorant of His ways and Laws
- Biblethe
directions tells us what to do
- Jesus provided the
way and means to do it
-
- If My People will turn, Yes
but how do we do that
- By recalling,
reflecting and repenting
- Reflect on our live
- Recall our deeds ,
what we said, what we did, how we reacted
- Repent from that ---
take it to the cross
- As we forgive, it causes us
to look inwards
- This leads to repentance,
true repentance
- A sorrow for what or how we
acted
- We see how we fall short of
the mark
- What is the mark, to be Like
Jesus
- So we vow to do better and
let Him do it thru us
- But we have to be willing to
deny ourselves and take up our cross
- Let Him work thru us to His
glory from God thru God to God to save us from God
- As we do that we become a
follower of Jesus
- We forgive, repent ,
learn and imitate Christ
- We become dependent
on His power not ours
- Not by power or
might but my Spirit
- We turn from our old way of
doing things and listen to His Spirit
- Can be simple things nice
words in place of harsh
- We start to Forgive, then
Repent then Abide then Disciple then Evangelize
- Abiding is to stay in Christ
, by reading His teachings and learn from Him
- We live to bear fruit, help
others to know Jesus
- Then to care about each
other, teach each other close to us and then far away
- Not just give help to those
far off
- Take care of things here
then there
- Jesus said start at home
then go to the corners of the earth
- We only get there by
repenting
- Is continual, no one
here is perfect, dont let them fool you
- Were forgiven,
but sin can block the power
- Like turning off the
light bulb, dimmer switch
- Need to confess sins
and shortcomings
- Heb 12:6 God
will correct us
- Without which we
would not know we sinned and would not repent
- To imitate Jesus, have to
forgive, repent, lay it at the cross and go on in His
power, not ours
- Joshua 24:15 15If it seem
evil to you to serve Yahweh, choose you this day
whom you(P) will serve; whether the
gods which your fathers served that were beyond
the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose
land you(P) dwell: but as for me and
my house, we will serve Yahweh. but as for me and my house
- Will face
difficulties, but can be overcome
- Cant get this by church
going, money giving, sermon hearing, feast celebrating,
sacrifice offering, pew sitting, donateing-- only by
coming to Jesus
- God is interested in our
character, not so much our comfort
- This is what is important
about repenting
- Re 3:19 as many as I
love I reprove and chasten
- Leads to being like Christ
caring for people and each other
- We have hope that our
problems here and suffering is not in vain
- Have to take it on FAITH
F=forgiveness Eph
1:7 cant
have eternal life without it
- A=available for all not
automatic Mat 7:21 but is there for everyone
- I= impossible for us to do
so James 2:13,.
Rom 3:23 God cant allow sin into heaven
because He is Holy and righteous and just and sin aint
- T= turn repent Luke 13:3 this is a must not a suggestion .
- H=Heaven John 10:10 John
14:3 He is coming back, that is our hope to escape
I John 1:8 have to confess
our sins to each other and to God, this is not easy.
- Trust Jesus, ask Him Take a
leap of Faith
- So, we must listen to John
the Baptist, Jesus and Peter
- Prepare the way of the Lord
- Repent for the kingdom of
God is at hand
- How much time do we have
left?
- Live as if we have no time
left, the 4th quarter and use this time from
Ash Wed till Easter to recall, reflect and repent
- Allow God to change you as
you come to His Son in His passion and plead His mercy
- He will give it to you.
Psalm 40:1-8 Read this prayer!
Invite to repent, lay it at the
foot of the cross.
