Salvation-- What is it Good For?

Part 1 What IS it?

John 1 ¹²But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

 

Rom 8 ¹⁴For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. ¹⁵For you have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but you have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. ¹⁶The Spirit itself bears witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

 

Intro:

Talk about this a lot, What is it? What good is it? What does it do for us? How does it help others?

·        Fills the emptiness in us—there has to be more

·        Make us thankful / what we have / who we are

·        gives us joy / in all circumstances

·        make us happy

·        connects us back to God

·        helps us overcome circumstances

·        helps us connect to & tell others about Jesus

·        keeps us from Gods wrath at final judgment     Rom 5:9-10

·        helps us understand why we are here  our purpose WORSHIP, FELLOWSHIP, DISCIPLESHIP, MINISTRY & EVANGELISM

 

 

 

What is salvation like?                                   

·        like parents give birth, time for baby to bond, know parents voice and how to please them

·        Paul says work out your own salvation

·        like embryos, Jesus gives birth to us again

·        be trained

·        being rescued from some danger---hit by a car

 

What is salvation consist of:

·        Gods work in the past  Exodus

·        Showed His power to save Ex 14:13

·        Showed His concern Ex 34:6-7

·        Gods work in the present Become like Jesus Christ  Heb 2:3  1 Pet 2:2  2 Pet 3:18

·        Gods work in the future to glorify us and renew the world—read, see hope

·        To take place at second coming, Blessed Hope

 

What is it?

·        Being rescued  from God, thru God to God

·        Gods wrath and final judgment

·        Foolishness to the rest of the world   WHY?

·        Because of the Cross, makes no sense

·        Don’t know what the Bible teaches

·        No one ever explained it  why?

·        Church has the come and go mixed up

·        Have to get back to basics

·        Go to disciple

·        Come to learn how to go

·        We have to hold fast to what we learned

·        2 Tim 1-:13 Titus 9:1                         

·        Abraham, Moses, Noah, Paul, Jesus

·        all held fast to what God told them

·        James=Faith & Works

·        Gods way of dealing with the sin problem and teaching us to grow up in Him thru Jesus

·        **Repent, the Kingdom of God is at hand

·        There is a storm coming in form of judgment

 

 

Conc:

·        When we do this we give Christ control of our life

·        As we read the Bible, we see what we should do and how to do it

·        He shows us how to do what we can, where we are with what we have

·        Doesn’t matter how much or little we have

·        Can do something, talk give us the boldness like Peter at Pentecost

·        Then enable us to talk to somebody

·        To have them ask us ‘cause they see something in us

·        They may not know what, just that they know and that is the Holy Spirit at work in them

 

Have you done that?  Most of you may have but need to get closer , spend more time with Jesus at His feet like Mary.
