You Gotta Have Faith

Intro: Faith----the final frontier. These are the journeys of the trusting Christian. They’re continuing mission: to explore interesting new living; to seek out lost lives and explain about Jesus; to boldly go proclaim where no Christian has gone before.

Joke-à Lady ran out of gas, walked to gas station, attendant had no can, she went back to her car, got bedpan, went to station got gas and back at her car was adding gas from the bedpan. Passerby saw this and said "Now THAT is faith".

False Evidence Appearing Real can hold us back from what we desire but as we Forget About Impossibilities and realize There’s Hope we can be with God as we Overcome our Sins by Christ that Paid the price, we get Eternal Life with Jesus forever

We have a fear in God, a Faith in Jesus and come to Him by way of the Gospel.

  1. Fear

A. Fear is False Evidence Appearing Real. Can make us afraid

    1. phobeoa’s fear of closed places, the walls moving in is false but seems real
    2. spooky movies, give us nightmares
    3. fear of going to hell
    4. fear of Gods wrath for our sins
    5. fear of God….is healthy for religion but not just fear alone
    6. guilty conscience leads to fear, did something wrong you know you will be corrected and punished
    1. Fear--when your mind senses you are in danger, an internal warning system a self correcting mechanism, unpleasant enough to motivate us to take action to remove ourselves from what threatens us.
    1. fear of drowning
    2. fear of reckless driving
    3. fear of flying pre 9-11 and post 9-11—now faith in pilot to take off fly straight and land, how much more to trust God as pilot of our life
    4. Fear of trusting God……David and Goliath he was much bigger God is bigger than any human seen or unseen enemy we could ever have.
    5. Fear drives us away from things….flying…airplane jumping
    6. Fear drives us to Faith, no faith without fear, of consequences

 

    1. OT tells us to fear God He is the judge, NT says Love God for He loves us
    1. Fear of God is beginning of Wisdom—is a loving reverence to submission to His word and commands
    2. Not the fear of punishment…even though this is a result of disobedience
    3. He cares and loves us he doesn’t just let us out in the cold to fend for ourselves.
    4. NT says He cares for the sparrow, numbered the hairs on our heads
    1. Jesus tells us to fear not—He will be with us if we are with Him

1. Psalm 147:11 11Jehovah taketh pleasure in them that fear him, In those that hope in his lovingkindness

2. Luke 12:22-32 32Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

 

 

  1. Faith
    1. Fantastic Adventure In Trusting Him
    1. wanted to preach, local church said had to do it their way, trusted God and here we are today with you
    2. taking church where its needed….not a building you can’t get to
    3. friend was in Mariner…we visited…….led us to start church here

 

    1. Forsaking All I Trust Him
    1. Israelites left Egypt, all trust in God
    2. Abraham left his family to go where God said…….didn’t know where he was going….only that God said go
    3. Moses—trusted God led Israel
    4. Peter….trusted, prayed 10 days gave most powerful 10 minute sermon

 

 

    1. Forget About Impossibilities There’s Hope
    1. what do you mean "I Can’t"
    2. if said enough you start to believe it have faith in it.
    3. Should ask "what if…….?"

 

    1. Forgiveness is Available as God is Impossible to allow sin to heaven, so if we Turn from sin and repent, we can be allowed into Heaven
    1. is not form our works, cant earn points
    2. work of salvation, saved from sins, is complete by Jesus
    3. we must allow Him into our lives to live thru us to obtain and work out our salvation
    4. His forgiveness is faithful and helps us endure to be saved
    5. Peter got forgiveness…denied Christ…..still made Him great

 

  1. Brings us to the Gospel
    1. God created us to be with Him Gen 1:26
    2. Our sin…disobedience…. separated us from God Gen 6:5-6
    3. Sin cant be removed by our good deeds Titus 3:5
    4. Paid the price by Jesus and the cross 1 Cor 15:3-4
    5. Everyone who trusts in Jesus has eternal life John 6:47
    6. Life to be with Jesus & God forever Rev 22:5

 

  1. Have Faith in the Gospel and God
    1. Love God not because of what he can do to us, punishment, but rather what He can do for and thru us, His Grace, His love, He loved us first.
    2. Jesus came, Jesus heals, Jesus delivers, Jesus is alive and Jesus is coming back!
    3. Faith comes by hearing & hearing by the word of God.
    1. Jesus said you believe in God, believe in Him also
    1. Got to have faith in something, why not the One who created us to love us and be with us forever and ever.
    1. people of Babel trusted in themselves to get to God…built a tower…..God did not want us to come that way…..trusting in our own devices…..rather trusting in Him….if these people put their mind to it…nothing is impossible to them….all things are possible….not talking about some Peter Pan type belief
    2. Don’t let doubt or unbelief hinder your trust, Abraham waited a long time for his son, possibly due to his doubts

 

  1. What is faith?
    1. Heb 11:1 NIV being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.
    2. AKJV Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen
    3. 1901 ASV 1Now faith is(1) assurance of things hoped for, a(2) conviction of things not seen.(1) Or the giving substance to 2) Or test )
    1. Christmas gifts
    2. ill you get well….or hope your cared for…if well you hope you don’t get ill
  1. How to get faith in Jesus…you already have faith….may be in wrong things
    1. ask for it….ask and you shall have
    2. realize you sinned
    3. ask Gods forgiveness
    4. put your trust in Jesus
    5. let Jesus be master…Lord of your life
    6.  

ROM 10:14 How shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? 15and how shall they preach, except they be sent? even as it is written,(1) How beautiful are the feet of them that bring(2) glad tidings of good things!(1

 

V. Faith produces

    1. repentance
    2. salvation
    3. remission, forgiveness, of sins
